What Was

The pebbles crunch beneath tiny toes,
An eager dash to splashing water.
A mother’s reach protects them,
Both father and a daughter.

An eager dash to splashing water,
A gleeful burst of song.
Both father and a daughter,
A love that’s new but strong.

A gleeful burst of song,
A tidal wave of bliss.
A love that’s new but strong,
A moment sealed with a kiss.

A tidal wave of bliss,
Shattered by a waking storm.
A moment sealed with a kiss,
No longer true in the light of morn.

Shattered by a waking storm,
Her reach finds empty space.
No longer true in the light of morn,
This is a lonely silent place.

Her reach finds empty space,
No father and no daughter.
This is a lonely silent place,
Her dreams relive her torture.
